The application of student learning to the real world is the goal of education. The most powerful experience we can have is when we can make an impact on those around us and the world at large. For students it provides meaning to their educational experience and answers the question of "why are we learning/doing this?". It's a fair question and one, if we take a moment to reflect, we as adults ask ourselves as we make decisions about the actions and plans we make. A quote from Margaret Mead says it well, "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it's the only thing that ever has." |
