Go with the Flow

Students use standard protocol to measure and calculate the stream's average rate of flow on that day. Students select a length of stream, measure multiple widths and depths and time the rate of flow. They then calculate the flow of water in cubic feet per second.

1. Things are changing around us all the time. A stream or river is a living changing thing too.

2. Change can occur in a variety of ways and for different reasons, and sometimes too slowly for humans to observe.

3. Changes in the environment can affect plants and organisms in positive, negative or neutral ways.

4. Tools are often need to measure specific changes.
